Can you imagine earning your money on the black market for organs ?
Desperation and the fates ready to cut the thread at any time .
Only the highest bidder .
I'm sure quite a few surgeons , among others , make a tidy little sum of blood money .
The new resource export business for poor countries ! Who knew ?

It's been a fear in this part of the world (South Asia) for a long time. There are lots of rumors of kids being kidnapped for their organs. I don't know the truth of it; I'd imagine it does happen some, and that street kids are most at risk for that. On the whole, organ donation here is probably at the most minimal, minimal stage -- I don't think there's a place on licenses to check, for instance.

I do know that in the US, South Asians have a very hard time finding organ matches (for bone marrow, for instance) because of the scarcity of South Asians in the database. So if anyone has South Asian friends, encourage them to sign up! There have been some awareness campaigns, but it's still really hard to find matches.

Wow! Does that mean I need to hurry up and die so people can get my innards?

Just became a donor when I ordered a duplicate of my lost license. Overcame my paranoia of organ vultures... thanks Phil and everyone for that organ donor discussion this summer.
